Montenidoli, An Iconic Producer of Vernaccia di San Gimignano

Sono Montenidoli in San Gimignano stands out as a true icon, preserving tradition under Elisabetta Fagiuoli’s thoughtful guidance. We are so grateful to Alessio and Elisabetta for their time and generosity during our visit last week, as we solidified a visit for our Tuscany Study trip in June.

While many see Vernaccia di San Gimignano as a simple tourist quencher, Montenidoli defies the norm with its unwavering style—oxidative, rich, round, and age-worthy...a snapshot of the past.

The reds are equally captivating, especially the Chianti Colle Senesi, following the ancient Ricasoli Chianti recipe with 70% Sangiovese and co-fermented white grapes (Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia Bianca Lunga), showing amazing depth, complexity, and rounded edges.

Some advice for all students of Italian wine: seek these wines. They will give you perspective on classic style.
The towers of San Gimignano just across the valley. Walking the vineyards, scattered with fossilized oyster shells, Alessio, our super knowledgeable and kind host for the day, shared deep insights into the terroir.

Meeting Elisabetta, a true force of nature, in her warm home was a privilege, and the tasting experience was unforgettable. Thank you for opening your doors to us!
Some places just stay with you after you leave...Sono Montenidoli is one of those.

We are beyond excited to bring our study trip group in June!
